astronomer and planetary scientist.
Throughout his career, Carl Sagan was engaged in basic
scientific research of our solar system. He already had an
impressive list of grants and publications on his curriculum vitae by 1961, including
articles in the journal Science, and
the Proceedings of the National Academy of
Science. While Carl Sagan had expressed an interest in
science communication from an early age, working with his mentors he had already landed a series
of major publications. His best known scientific contribution is his
research on the possibility of extraterrestrial life,
including experimental demonstration of the production of
amino acids from basic chemicals by exposure to light
